​The story follows James Lincoln (Jonathan McClean), a “kook” columnist for a national tabloid who spends his days interviewing UFO believers and paranormal enthusiasts. Desperate for a “real” story to prove his worth, he hears about the village of Herg and its ominous legend: “The Thirty.” According to the locals, a person has vanished from the village like clockwork every three decades for centuries.

​Thinking it’s the perfect weekend getaway and story opportunity, James brings his heavily pregnant fiancée, Harriet (Anna Dawson), along for the trip. The narrative takes a dark turn when:

• ​The Midnight Disappearance: Harriet vanishes from their bed and breakfast, leaving behind only a few cryptic clues and a village full of people who claim to know nothing.
• ​The Expert’s Help: James is joined by Alexandra (Hannah Chalmers), a local who seems to know more about the occult roots of the village than she initially lets on.
• ​The Price of Eternal Life: The investigation leads James to a dark priest and a devilish deal made generations ago, where blood sacrifices are the only currency for survival.

​Directed by the duo Sean Brown and Luke Gosling, Blood Myth excels in creating a sense of “domestic dread.” By placing a vulnerable, pregnant protagonist in a location that is geographically and socially isolated, the filmmakers wring every drop of tension out of the search. It is a slow-burn horror that relies on atmosphere and psychological unease rather than cheap jump scares.
